The Air Self-Defense Force Air Rescue Wing, commonly known as PJ (Pararescue Jumper), is an elite unit composed of selected individuals who conduct rescue operations in extremely harsh conditions during accidents and disasters. They are essentially the "ultimate rescue unit".
PJs are deployed when it is determined that no other organization can carry out the rescue. Therefore, they are required to possess a wide range of abilities, and naturally, their training is extremely rigorous.
The story follows Chief Instructor, Seiji Usami, who harbors intense passion and trains the trainees through unconventional methods, and the trainees who have passed the highly challenging selection exams to become PJ members. It depicts their struggle as they face a year-long 'hell' of training.
